Skin Brightening Options And Procedures

By Sandra Mitchell

The color of a person's skin is determined by the amount of a pigment called melanin. People with darker complexion have more melanin in their skin, and some would like to make it a little bit lighter. Hormone related discoloration, freckles, age spots and similar issues all can be treated by various skin brightening products, but there are a few things you have to be aware of in case you are interested in using such products.

When it comes to various cosmetic products made for this particular use, its really important to read the labels very carefully. There are some ingredients that are quite effective, but also really dangerous. One of such ingredients is mercury. It can be used as an active ingredient in bleaching products, although, it's really forbidden in most countries. If you find calomel among listed ingredients, it's actually mercury.

Hydroquinone is another substance you must be careful about. It is quite effective, but can be dangerous in higher percentages. If it is listed on the label, it should be under 2 percent. If the percentage is higher, do not use this product. If there is no percentage listed, ask the pharmacist about it, or simply choose another product instead. In any case, do not apply such products on your face without professional consultation.

If you find steroids on the label, you should consider the risks involved. First, steroids are also forbidden. Second, they can come to your blood stream. And third, they can cause all kinds of problems, including skin thinning, acne, various infections and so on. In any case, pregnant women should not consider using dangerous cosmetics ever, especially steroids.

There are also some natural ways of making your complexion a little bit lighter. Lemon juice is quite effective, but it takes some time and it might be a little bit aggressive to more sensitive areas. Chamomile tea, parsley and baking soda could also be helpful. Washing your face with whey is the old recipe used for centuries, but it might be quite difficult to find whey today.

Bleaching products come as creams, lotions, gels or masks. Some are more effective than others, but using such products is always risky to some point. As with all other products, if you aren't absolutely sure about using them, ask your physician or dermatologist first, especially if you are allergic on some substances, or simply have highly sensitive complexion prone to infections and other problems.

Facial treatments such as dermal abrasion, micro laser peel or chemical peeling are great when it comes to brightening. They make your face and other parts of your body look more vibrant, lighter and younger, and this can be done in a relatively short time. Besides, such procedures aren't too expensive, they provide quick and excellent results, and remove even wrinkles.

Brightening treatments make complexion look younger and more appealing, more vibrant. They remove different irregularities, or at least make them less visible. Hormone related discoloration may look quite unappealing, and can be removed successfully by various methods. In any case, you should be careful and consult a professional before deciding about your favorite method. Choose high quality products only.
