Tips For Finding A Paraben Free Body Butter

By Marie Wilson

Body butters are among the recent trends in skin health and general well being. Thicker and more moisturizing than traditional lotions, they work wonders on the skin, making it softer as they nourish it deeply. This is why they have become so popular as lotion replacements in the cosmetic world. Unfortunately though, some body butters are less than healthy. Most health conscious cosmetic users would naturally prefer a paraben free body butter over these chemically tainted ones.

One of the dangerous ingredients that is found in some body butters is parabens. They are typically used to preserve cosmetics. Preservation is, of course an important factor as it helps to extend the product's shelf life and by extension makes the production of cosmetics feasible. But they are also associated with diseases including cancer.

While it is true that the healthy status of many cosmetic products like body butter has been tainted by the presence of parabens, it is also true that consumers can still find body butters that are genuinely natural. The discerning shopper therefore needs to be vigilant in the search for a body butter that is free from parabens. There are a few things that shoppers need to be wary of as they search for the ideal healthy cosmetics.

It is important to note that there are many different types of parabens. A consumer who is armed with this knowledge will be better able to discern the nature friendly cosmetics from the unhealthy ones. Buyers should pay close attention to the labels and be wary of the fact that parabens do not always have names that indicate what they are. Paraben buyers should familiarize themselves with these names so that they can make informed decisions when buying.

Butters that are closer to nature are always healthier for the skin. Specifically, those that have natural substances such as shea butter as their main ingredient. These natural ingredients should undergo just enough processing to make them usable as cosmetics as too much processing can reduce their positive impact and introduce harmful elements.

Some people can make their own butters. This is one of the most reliable ways of ensuring that parabens remain out of cosmetics. Recipes for the making of these and other cosmetics can be found online. The good thing about home made cosmetics is that the user has total control over what goes into the mixture. They do usually not last very long though and so they must be used up after being made or stored in a refrigerator for short term preservation.

Some cosmetic companies have a proven track record for providing good quality healthy products. This does not mean that consumers do not still need to do some research when shopping. International health organizations and consumer bodies often rank these companies in terms of the safety of their products. These companies use safe and more nature friendly preserving agents.

In a world that has been saturated by technicality, consumers of cosmetic items must remain vigilant. They cannot allow the pursuit of beauty to lead to a sacrifice of health. This means taking advantage of the wealth of knowledge that exists and ensuring that they use this knowledge to keep harmful substances away from their bodies.
