Uses Of Naturopathy And Cancer Treatments

By Carol Wood

Naturopathy is the practice of using herbal and natural remedies in the treatment of illness to facilitate the body's own healing mechanism. It is an alternative treatment to traditional medicine. There are benefits of naturopathy and cancer treatment that can enhance and improve one's quality of life.

In seeing a naturopathic practitioner, a cancer patient can use this alternative in addition to traditional cancer treatments. The naturopath works in conjunction with medical doctors to improve the patient's response to treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation. These methods can help the patient to better tolerate their symptoms and help them to function at a higher level than they would otherwise without any additional treatment.

Herbs and roots are used in the medicines of naturopathy and have very few side effects. Often this can help to control the side effects experienced from more traditional treatments of cancer. The patient sees a naturopathic doctor to help them improve their quality of life and to seek alternatives that can help the body to heal itself.

Naturopathic practitioners work with medical doctors to design a total treatment plan that helps the patient in many ways. They collaborate regarding the patient's overall treatment and response and NDs use the knowledge they have to come up with a treatment plan that gives the patient the best outcome for their total wellness.

Some naturopathic practitioners attend four-year colleges or universities to study this type of medicine and receive a degree and are then licensed to practice within their state as an ND. There are some who study on their own but do not become doctors and are just practitioners who have studied the art of this type of medicine.

Not every state has practicing naturopaths and some states will not license them to practice. If you live in a state that does check with your local agencies on who is licensed in your state to practice this form of medicine. Many states do not have this option and so do not endorse this kind of treatment in any way. If your state does not have this option there may be other ways to seek to alternative treatments.

There are various forms of treatment that the naturopath uses and this can include vitamin therapy, herbal remedies, natural medicines, massage therapy, spinal manipulation, meditation techniques and the like. Of these remedies, they take the whole person into consideration during their treatment and use a holistic approach to their practice of naturopathy.

If you are seeking alternatives for your cancer treatment you should consider naturopathy as a source. It can help to bring about your body's own healing response and improve your quality of life while you go through traditional medical treatments. Check with your state or licensing board to find a naturopathic practitioner near you.
