A Review Of Instant Self Tan Products And How They Operate On Your Skin

By Haywood Hunter

Instant self tan products are all the rage today. They ensure you get the greatest fake tan in the face of the earth without subjecting yourself to harmful ultraviolet rays from the sun, or their artificial counterparts from artificial tanning beds. Instant self tan products, or what is simply referred to as sunless tanning products have been in existence for quite some time now ever since the invention of cosmetics back in the 60s.

As time went by, and as new technology was invented, the instant self tan products were improved and enhanced to meet the consumer growing demands. Today, they are the safest alternative for those looking for an instant natural tan effect. The products that were released in the 60s and 70s were improved, and others made to accommodate the new changes and demands.

There is a wide range of instant self tan products in the market but they are generally categorized into two. Those that work on the outside and those that are designed to work from the inside out such as the pills and tan accelerators. Before looking into details how each of these categories of instant self tan products work, it is important to mention something about their functionality.

Most people often assume that the instant self tan products would double up as sunscreens. While they do produce a natural tan effect, it should be made clear that they do not introduce melanin into your skin, the way alternative tanning methods do. As such, you should ensure you apply sunscreen each time you go out in the sun so as not to subject your skin against harmful ultraviolet rays. Besides, investing in a good quality sunscreen will mean you will end up with an even, natural tan since it will complement your instant self tan.

First on the list are cosmetic bronzers. These are instant self tan products that are known to produce instant effects that can be washed off easily using soap and water. They are available in form of creams, powders, and lotions. One thing that should be made clear is that they are more or less a type of make-up, simply because the darken effect only lasts up to when it is washed.

The other category of instant self tan are sunless tanning products such as mists, creams, sprays and tanning lotions. These are the most popular because of their miracle-working effect on the skin. Upon application, the active ingredient Dihydrozyacetone (DHA) interacts with dead skin cells found on the epidermis to form the darkened effect.

Once the darkened effect is formed, it can last up to 10 days as the skin will change color almost immediately. The DHA is FDA approved, and is simply a colorless sugar that causes the reaction between dead skin cells and the instant self tan.

Most people are often concerned by the fast rate at which the instant self tan effect will last. Generally, because the skin goes through a series of wear and tear and ultimately regeneration, the fake tan effect is bound to fade off over time. This explains the reason why instant self tan products are affordably priced to ensure consumers can easily avail them and reapply as and when they wish to maintain the tan effect.
