There is use of drainage tubes as the breasts get stitched up. Following that, they get wrapped with special gauze. A patient will have to wear surgical bra. When treatment is done, you need to take some two weeks off work. There are people whose recovery may take longer depending on their condition.

There are some possible side effects or complications that you should expect. Scars are expected after treatment. However, over a period of time they will fade away, albeit without disappearing fully. In case you lift very heavy stuff after surgery, the scars are bound to get worse. In a few instances, complications like improper healing of nipples can be experienced.

After the surgery, one will need to contact the surgeon if there is any infection which might include redness or tenderness. Fever and unusual swelling around treatment area should also be reported. The surgeon should also know if there is unusual discharge from the site of incision and if there are stitches coming out before one is due to have them removed.

In most instances, surgical procedures for breast reduction are covered by insurance. Because the procedure is grouped as a reconstructive one, it is paid for by insurance. One is however supposed to follow guidelines set by health insurance policy.
