Because sleeping should be done for about 6-9 hours, anything that will reduce the time for having an effective one should be eliminated. This includes apnea, which is a disorder in sleeping. Fortunately, there are natural ways of dealing with this apart from surgery. These natural treatment for sleep apnea are not expensive, noninvasive and also effective. One cure for this disorder that has been used severally is CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure). This is done with a mask and a machine that pumps air to the person with the disorder. The air gets into the nostrils through the mask while the mask receives the air through a long tube that connects it to the air tank. Thus, there will be no cessation as there is a direct supply to the person's airways.

Unfortunately, some people cannot fall asleep with the mask on. This is why another strategy has to be used on them. The positional therapy is quite simple and works on the theory that sleeping in a supine position can cause a cessation in breathing. Thus, the person affected wears a device to make sure he is kept on his side while sleeping.

Not taking alcohol or cigarette is another useful technique. Alcohol is bad for sleep apnea because it can relax the muscles of the throat and when this happens, snoring is bound to happen. The same effect happens when smoking a cigarette because of the nicotine content. Apart from nicotine, cigarette smoke causes the inflammation of the upper airways.

A person's occupation can make him or her more susceptible to sleep apnea. That is why you will hear complaints about this more frequently from caterers and firefighters. These people have to do everything possible to minimize the quantity of smoke they inhale if they cannot avoid it completely. One good measure they can take is wearing a nose mask.

Eating healthily is another strategy to prevent this. The target should be to lose weight so combining it with exercising proves much more effective. People who used to apply CPAP before losing weight will no longer have a need for it if they adjust well to their new way of life. It requires discipline and determination to stick to a regular feeding and exercise habit no matter how beautiful the results one is expecting are.

If antioxidant supplements are administered the right way, sleep apnea can be solved. The reason why antioxidants will work is that the disorder is caused by oxidative stress. This means the accumulation of free radicals and reduced levels of antioxidants in the blood. The more the oxidative stress, the less the ability of the blood vessels to contract and relax. This is what is referred to as endothelial dysfunction, which is a major cause of sleep apnea. Antioxidant supplements that can be used include vitamin E and beta-carotene.

You can stop this disorder with vitamin D rich foods or supplements. It will help to maintain insulin level so that there will be nothing like insulin resistance and inflammation. It was discovered that apnea patients performed better when administered doses of vitamin D supplements so there is no doubt that this will work on you too.
