Preventing Food Allergies In Newborns

By Patricia Robinson

Babies respond differently to new foodstuff. While some are okay and feed normally, others develop rushes, itchiness, swelling among others when they consume certain content. Recently, cases of allergic responses among kids have been on the rise. Even with in-depth research, it has not been possible to come up with a specific drug to counter sensitivity. This may be due to reactions varying from one individual to another. This means if a baby reacts to eggs, another one may be affected by peanut oil. Fortunately, medical specialists list a number of factors for preventing food allergies in young ones. The below paragraphs explain a number of them.

Specialists advise mothers to introduce solid pieces of stuff when a baby is three months old and above. Research carried out by scientists indicate that prevalence is more among children introduced to solids below seventeen weeks. This is contributed to their nature of digestive systems as well as absorption of nutrients. Of course, at seventeen weeks, their digestive system is too weak to digest such contents. Likewise, fewer nutrients are used up while much is left in the blood system. As substances increase in blood, the body reacts by developing specific sensitivities.

Next, mothers should continue feeding newborns with breast milk even after introducing solid diets. A few parents stop breastfeeding once babies start eating because they think foodstuff is a proper substitute for breast milk. However, nutritionists have proved that breastfeeding reduces the case of sensitivity. This is because milk is able to regulate the immune system functionality in a baby.

Another proven factor is the reduced processed diet. With schedules becoming busier every day, most parents have resolved to purchase ready-made dietary. Overfeeding children with these substances increases their risk to reactions. Instead, feed them with fresh fruits and vegetables. Instead of cooking much food for refrigerating, parents should prepare enough for a particular moment. Similarly, fruits may be blended in small quantities to be taken within six hours of preparation.

How often new regimes are introduced influences body reactions. Children whose diets are changed regularly within one or two days are at greater risks of contracting allergic reactions. Medical experts give a guideline of about four days to bring in new contents. Within four days, bodies are already used to a particular foodstuff hence a mother can easily tell whether it is okay or not. In case a baby rejects a certain component, then mothers can eliminate such.

If your family has a history of reaction towards certain substances, avoid it in newborns before they are screened by pediatricians. Normally, kids from families with a history of a given allergic reaction are more likely to develop reactions fast. Therefore, doctors should examine their blood first before allowing parents to feed them with similar content.

It is better to gradually expose a child to every age-friendly consumable products right from a young age rather than wait until they are two or three years old. New research has proved that sensitivity developed and recognized at an early stage is easier to overcome than one recognized during later stages. Remarkably, breastfeeding help neutralizes reactive materials at an early age which is not possible when a child is above the breastfeeding stage.

Even though it is difficult to control sensitivity, the above guidelines will lower risks of such cases. New mothers ought to keen in following these procedures to protect kids from reactions.
