Turning Into A Well Known Ski Photographer

By Carolyn Green

This kind of job can really put you to the limits. However, this article can make you realize that there is nothing that you cannot do for as long as you put your mind on it. So, basically prepare your heart for your passion and your body for the physical constraints which come along with this path of work.

The first thing that you need to be friends with would be sunlight. As a ski photographer Alberta, it is your goal to prevent the sun from hiding parts of the stills which you want to capture. Thus, do not give up on finding that perfect angle and try to be patient in the field as much as possible.

Prepared to be cold, wet and sore in Alberta. This kind of inconvenience is part of what you have signed up for. You may be wearing the right kind of gear but because of your need to move around, it cannot be helped for the cold air to get into your garment. So, simply get used to this kind of environment.

You need to be an artist and a nerd at the same. While the artist will tell you to go with your instincts in taking a shot, the nerd would dictate you to measure the speed of the skier and wait for that moment when they take the jump. Always go for quality and shots that would truly depict what happened here.

Mystery needs to remain in there because this is how you effectively introduce your subject to the public. Do this with the perfect mix of art and precision. You also need to become familiar with your target audience. Enhance your basic knowledge and it all be alright in the end.

In everything you do, include every aspect that involves another race. Plus, be in the field all day long for you to capture other interesting subjects. Remember that there is still so much that the world does not know about this field. Thus, it is your job to be their eye and your employer will not have any reason to let you go.

Continue taking shots even during their break time. Remember that you are only allowed to be in the vicinity for a couple of hours. Thus, make the most out of that given time and make it a point to capture different angles for your editors to completely be happy with your work. Persevere and this can be the big break which you are waiting for.

Find fellow photographers who are into this particular craft and you have more than one reason to be out there in the cold. When you join a community, you would already have someone to talk to about your difficulties at work. They would fully understand what you are talking about and this can motivate you for the longest time.

Be patient with the transition which you are going through. In that way, you shall be successful in enhancing your skills. You would find yourself volunteering for more expeditions and grow.
