By Arthur Baker

What commonly causes hair loss in individuals is genetics. In fact, it is heredity that is known to lead to 95 percent of all baldness cases. A small percentage is caused by such factors as diet, medications and illnesses. The medications associated with baldness are the ones prescribed for heart problems, gout and depression. In considering hair replacement Studio DE residents should be versed with techniques used.

There are only two drugs that are approved for treatment of baldness by the FDA. They are Rogaine and propecia. Rogaine is a topical solution which gets applied on the scalp by direct rubbing on sections that have experienced hair loss. The percentage of people who get desired results with this medication is low. However, it is known to slow down growth of hairs. Propecia is effective for males and should be given under instructions from a doctor. It also needs to be used continuously.

Permanent hair loss can be treated by various procedures such as scalp reduction, micro-grafting and slit grafting. What determines method used for treatment is type of baldness and what the desire of the patient is. However, not everybody will be a suitable candidate for replacement of hairs. For example, it will not be ideal for women with pattern, diffuse or widespread baldness. Those who do not have enough donor sections for the procedure will also not be able to get desired outcomes. The other category are those who form keloid scars after surgery or trauma.

As regards grafting, which are also known as transplants, it is normally an outpatient procedure which can be done from an office of a dermatologist. Micro grafts have several hairs per graft while slit grafts have 4 to 10. As for punch grafts, the number of hairs range between 10 to 15. The procedure is done by first injecting anesthetic to aid relaxation and comfort.

For the grafting procedure, the surgeon will begin by removing some portion of the hair-bearing scalp. This is followed cutting removed scalp into many segments that have varying amounts of hairs. These are transplanted into areas that are balding, they thicken and produce a subtle look. After grafting, there is cleaning of the scalp before it is covered using a gauze.

With scalp reduction, there will be removing of skin that does not have hairs. This is mainly done to make it possible for skin sections that are remaining to get stretched to fill areas that are bald. This procedure is effective for bald areas at the top and is never used for frontal hairlines. It involves injecting anesthetic into the scalp followed by removal of bald segments. There is loosening of surrounding skin which is then stretched gently. This will enable sections that have hairs to be brought together.

There are a few side effects of scalp reduction as a procedure. There will be some pain when surgery is completed. The pain is more than what is experienced during grafting. There is also likely to be a headache that is controlled using pain killers. For some people, there will be scalp tightness.

You will need to have the procedure professionally done. There are a number of professionals you can choose from. There should be proper research before settling on an appropriate dermatologist.
