The Basics Of Concussion Recovery

By David Lee

The recovery for a concussion can vary from a few days to lifetime. People have concussions all the time, but are able to get up again and continue with their activities. However, there are also people who lose consciousness and are not able to get back to the state where they were before. The concussion recovery period won't usually last more than ten days.

There are people who don't rest or relax after an injury like this, and they will simply continue playing sport. They will suffer from symptoms which are basic symptoms of a concussion. Many people associate a concussion with a loss of consciousness. However, lots of people don't blank out at all. There are other symptoms which play a part in their lives.

Many people are under the impression that when you have a concussion, you lose consciousness. However, this is not true. For example, there are many American footballers every season who will just suffer from many of these symptoms. They take time out and then get back on the field.

It is dangerous to be suffering from these symptoms which one thinks are basic effects of being hit on the head. They think that they are recovering from this. There are American footballers will get back on the field with these symptoms, which is a concussion and continue playing the game. This is obviously dangerous.

The recovery period will vary from one person to the next. Of course, it is the nature of the accident or injury which complicates this period. However, there are people who will develop which can last months. It is known as the post-concussion syndrome when it continues like this. There are many other symptoms, such as nausea or blurred vision as well as depression which are also common.

For people who know how to recover the right way, they will get as much rest as people within the ten days which it takes to heal from this. In addition to this, they will stay away from screens which are bright and loud. They tend to flash and this is not good for the eyes and the brain, of course.

If you have followed the right steps by getting enough rest and staying away from vigorous activities, you will probably find that recovery process speeds up. It will also quicken when you don't spend a lengthy time in front of the laptop, your phone or your TV. Sudden noises which are loud or bright lights can set you back. This especially applies to people who are more sensitive to these sensations.

It is important to stay away from stress or anything that brings on anxiety. This can be activities in the work place or anything in the home environment. One should attempt to take time away from work and stay in a peaceful environment where the individual can simply relax. There are supplements available, such as omega 3, but this is also available in certain foods, such as salmon. Protein is also good because it helps to improve the cognitive functions.
