Give your back plenty of time to recover. It's very important that you also provide your spine with enough rest. Refrain from making matters worse by pushing your body to its limits. While sitting or lying down during rest periods, according to health authorities, you should regularly change positions to keep your spine from becoming stiffened.

Count on either ice or heat. A really effective remedy for the associated pain is by applying an ice pack or a heat bag where it hurts. No matter which one you prefer, you will surely attain relief quickly. Some people prefer alternating ice and heat. You may give it a try, too, although it's a good idea to allow about 30 minutes to pass before switching.

Stay away from inflammatory foods. Health authorities agree that it's a good idea for you to exclude certain foods in your diet, in particular those that are known to trigger inflammation. Some of them include red meat and dairy foods. Those that are high in refined sugar should be avoided as well. Refrain from consuming non fat foods, too, because fat is something that can help in minimizing pain whether you believe it or not.

Consume oily types of fish regularly. Your diet should consist of herring, mackerel, sardines, tuna and trout on a regular basis. That's because they are very rich in anti inflammatory compounds, and they're called omega 3 fatty acids. If you cannot add oily fish to your diet as regularly as possible, fret not because you can obtain plenty of omega 3 fatty acids by popping fish oil capsules in your mouth.

Consume or apply turmeric. Scientists say that turmeric is a spice that has amazing anti inflammatory properties. That is why you should add lots of it to your foods or simply brew it into a tea. You may also combine turmeric with a few drops of water or coconut oil and apply the resulting paste on the achy area of your spine for much needed relief.

Give alternative treatments a try. Many people swear by the effectiveness of acupuncture and acupressure. However, it's a good idea for you to first consult your doctor before attempting to try any of these.
